Upload a fix to delivered work,
without changing what your client sees.
You’ve spotted a mistake in work your client already approved, and you want to fix it without changing what they received before they’ve seen the fix.
By the end, you’ll have added the fix as a new version, returned the deliverable to work, and sent it in the next review, with your client keeping the approved version until then.
Before you start
- A delivered deliverable your client approved in a review.
- The fixed file on your computer.
- The project review permission, to return the deliverable to work.

Harbor and Pine approved both assets in their first review. On the Deliverables tab, both are delivered, approved at v1.
Then you spot a typo on the delivered front label. Fix the file, and add it to the same asset, as a new version.
On Files and versions, click Add file. New version is already selected, and the destination reads Original, V2.
Choose the corrected file, and click Add as V2.
V2 is now the current version in your library.
Back in the project, the front label is still delivered, approved at v1. The row shows that v2 was uploaded, and needs re-review.
Open it. The banner says the newer version was never reviewed. The file your client received is still the one shown here.
To send the fix, return the label to work. This needs the project review permission.
The file stays visible in the client portal, marked as being revised. Your client isn't emailed about it.
The front label is back in production, and the new version needs review.
Meanwhile, your client's side.
In Maya's portal, nothing has changed. The delivered front label is still v1, with the typo. It's only marked, Being revised by the studio.
Back in the studio.
Click Prepare client review. The key visual stays out, because it's already accepted. The front label goes in with v2.
Add a short note, and click Start review and email clients.
Review 2 is open, and Maya gets an email with the link.
Maya's turn again.
Only now does Maya see the fix. In Review 2, the front label is marked v2, revised, and the portal tells her the previous version was approved.
Until she approves it, the label waits in the review, and her delivered files hold only the key visual.
Good to know: uploading a new version never changes delivered work. Returning it to work sends no email. Your client sees the fix only when you start the next review.
In short: upload the fix as a new version, return the deliverable to work, and send it in the next review. Until then, your client keeps the version they approved.

Fix it now; your client sees it in the next review.
Harbor & Pine approved both assets in their first review. Then Alex Morgan spots a typo on the delivered front label: the headline reads “MLIK”. Alex adds the corrected file as a new version, returns the label to work, and sends it in Review 2.

Delivered and approved
On the project’s Deliverables tab, both deliverables are delivered, approved at v1: “Delivered · Approved v1”.
- 02
Upload the fix as a new version
Fix the file, and add it to the same asset as a new version. Open the asset, and in Files & versions click Add file. New version is already selected, and the destination reads Original, V2.
Choose the corrected file and click Add as V2. V2 is now the current version in your library. For more on versions, see Keep file revisions together with version history.
- 03
Delivered work stays as it was
Back in the project, the front label is still Delivered, approved at v1. The row shows that v2 was uploaded, “Approved v1 · v2 uploaded”, and marks it Needs re-review.
Open it. The banner reads “A newer version was never reviewed — return to work to review it”. The file your client received is still the one shown here, with “2 versions in the library”.
- 04
Return it to work
To send the fix, return the label to work. This needs the project review permission. Click Return to work. The confirmation says the file stays visible in the client portal, marked as being revised. Click Return to work again.
Your client isn’t emailed about it. The front label is back in production, and the banner reads “Approved v1 · new version needs re-review”.
- 05
What your client sees meanwhile
In your client’s portal, nothing has changed. The delivered front label is still v1, with the typo. It’s only marked Being revised by the studio.
- 06
Send the fix in the next review
Back in the studio, click Prepare client review. The key visual stays out: “Already accepted — return it to work to review a new version.” The front label goes in with v2.
Add a short note for your client, here “Fixed the typo in the headline.”, and click Start review & email clients. Review 2 is open, and your client gets an email with the link. The same steps are in Send a revised version back for approval.
- 07
Your client sees the fix
Only now does your client see the fix. In Review 2, the front label is marked v2 · revised, and the portal says “Previous version was approved”.
Until they approve it, the label waits in the review, and their delivered files hold only the key visual. Their side of the decision is in Approve work, or send it back with changes.

Good to know
- New version. Uploading a new version never changes delivered work or what your client sees in the portal.
- Return to work. It needs the project review permission and sends no email. See Mark a deliverable as done, and know who can undo it.
- Next review. Your client sees the fix only when you start the next review.
For the whole revision cycle from both sides, see How revisions work, for your team and your client.
In short: upload the fix as a new version, return the deliverable to work, and send it in the next review. Until then, your client keeps the version they approved.
Check the result
- You added the fix as a new version of the same asset, and it’s marked Current.
- The deliverable still showed Delivered, with the new version waiting for re-review.
- You returned the deliverable to work, and it’s back in production.
- You prepared and started the next client review with the new version.
If it didn’t work
I uploaded the fix, but the deliverable still says Delivered · Approved v1.
That’s by design. A new version never changes delivered work. The row shows that the new version was uploaded and needs re-review; return the deliverable to work to send it.
I can’t return the deliverable to work.
Return to work needs the project review permission. Your client can’t do it either.
Is my client told when I return work to work?
No email is sent. In the portal, the delivered file stays as it was, marked Being revised by the studio.
When does my client see the fix?
Only when you start the next review. Until they approve it, the asset waits in that review, and it isn’t in their delivered files.
