Keep file revisions together
with version history.
You’ve fixed a file, and you want the fix on the same asset, with the old file and its comments still there, instead of a second card in the library.
By the end, you’ll have added a new version that’s current at once, labeled it, looked back at the earlier version and its comment, and seen the asset keep one card.
Before you start
- An asset in your library, and the corrected file on your computer.

Keep file revisions together with version history.
Alex Morgan is working on the Harbor and Pine winter label. Open it from the library.
Jordan Reyes left a comment on it: there's a typo in the headline.
Alex has fixed the file. It goes onto this asset as a new version, so the label keeps one card and one history. If the fix was already uploaded as a separate file, there's a guide for that too.
Open Files and versions. So far there's one version, V1, marked Current.
Click Add file. New version is already selected, and the destination reads Original, V2.
Choose the corrected file.
The note says what happens next: V2 becomes current as soon as the upload is finalized, before its previews are ready. Click Add as V2.
V2 is at the top, already marked Current. While its previews are made, the row says Processing.
Once processing is done, the corrected label is on screen.
Give the version a label, so the team sees what changed. Click Add a label, type Headline typo fixed, and save.
V1 is still in the list, with its date, its author, and Jordan's comment. Select V1 to see the old file.
The viewer shows V1, typo included. Jordan's comment is marked on V1, the version it was left on.
Set current would make V1 the current version again, if you ever need to go back.
The version menu has one action: Copy link to this version. Versions can't be deleted one at a time, so the history stays complete.
Select V2 again.
Back in the library, the label is still one card, and it now shows the fix.
Versions are for revisions of the same file. A different crop, a language, or a web export is a variant or a format: see the guide on why an asset is more than a file. Adding a version doesn't send anything to your client; sending a revision back for approval has its own guide.
In short: open the asset, click Add file, and choose New version. The new upload becomes current, and earlier versions stay in the history with their comments.

One asset, every revision.
Alex Morgan is working on the Harbor & Pine winter label. Jordan Reyes spotted a typo in the headline, and Alex has fixed the file. The fix goes onto the same asset as a new version, so the label keeps one card and one history.
A new version becomes current at once. It can carry a label that says what changed, and earlier versions stay with their comments. Sign in to YetOnePro and open an asset to follow along.
- 01
Open the asset
Open the asset from the library. In the video, Jordan’s comment on it says there’s a typo in the headline.
If the fix was saved as a separate file, upload it and add it to this asset from the upload results; see Upload a revision without a duplicate.
- 02
Add a new version
Open Files & versions. So far there’s one version, V1, marked Current.
Click Add file. New version is already selected, and the Destination reads Original, V2. Choose the corrected file.
The note says what happens next: current changes when the upload is finalized, before previews are ready. Click Add as V2.
- 03
V2 is current
V2 is at the top, already marked Current. While its previews are made, the row says Processing. Once processing is done, the corrected file is on screen.
- 04
Label the version
Give the version a label, so your team sees what changed. Click Add a label, type it, here “Headline typo fixed”, and save.
- 05
Earlier versions stay
V1 is still in the list, with its date, its author and Jordan’s comment. Select V1 to see the old file: the viewer shows it, typo included, with Jordan’s comment marked on the version it was left on.
Set current would make V1 the current version again, if you ever need to go back. The version menu has one action, Copy link to this version. Versions can’t be deleted one at a time, so the history stays complete.

One card in the library
Select V2 again and go back to the library. The label is still one card, and it now shows the fix.
Versions are for revisions of the same file. A different crop, a language or a web export is a variant or a format; see One logo, one asset: variants, versions and formats. To see exactly what changed between two versions of an image, see Compare two image versions to see what changed.
Adding a version doesn’t send anything to your client. To send a revision back to your client for approval, see Send a revised version back for approval.
In short: open the asset, click Add file, and choose New version. The new upload becomes current, and earlier versions stay in the history with their comments.
Check the result
- You added the corrected file with Add file and New version.
- The new version is at the top, marked Current.
- You gave it a label that says what changed.
- The earlier version is still in Files & versions, with its comments.
If it didn’t work
The new version says Processing.
It’s already current; its previews are still being made. Once processing is done, the new file shows in the viewer.
Can I delete one old version?
No. Versions can’t be deleted one at a time, so the history stays complete. The version menu has Copy link to this version.
I need the earlier version back.
Select it in Files & versions and click Set current. It becomes the current version again.
Where did the comment on the old version go?
It stays on the version it was left on. Select that version to see the file and the comment marked on it.
It’s a different crop, language or web export, not a fix.
That’s a variant or a format of the asset, not a version. See the guide on variants, versions and formats.
