By the end, the project has its own folder, with a folder inside it for approved work, and every asset sits where the team can find it.

WRITTEN GUIDE

Give each project its own place in the Library.

Three new labels for the Harbor & Pine project just landed in Northstar Creative’s Library, mixed in with everything else. Alex Morgan creates a Harbor & Pine folder, moves the labels into it, and adds an Approved folder inside it for the final front label.

Open the Library in your workspace to follow along. Folders sit in the row above the assets.

  1. 01

    Start in the Library

New assets land in the Library with everything else. The Folders row above them holds the folders you already have.

  2. 02

    Create a folder

Click New Folder, type the project name, for example “Harbor & Pine”, and click Create. The new folder appears in the Folders row.

  3. 03

    Select the assets

Click Select, then pick the assets that belong to the project. The bar at the bottom counts them, for example “3 assets selected”.

  4. 04

    Move them into the folder

In the selection bar, open Move to Folder and choose the folder. The assets leave the main view, and the folder’s tile shows how many assets it holds.

To take assets out of every folder again, choose Root Folder at the top of the same list.
  5. 05

    Open the folder

Click the folder to open it. The breadcrumbs at the top show where you are: All Folders › Harbor & Pine. New assets you add from here go straight into it with Upload to this folder.

  6. 06

    Add a folder inside it

Folders can hold folders, too. Inside the folder, click New Folder, name it, for example “Approved”, and click Create.

To move an asset into it, select the asset and open Move to Folder. Expand the parent folder to reach the one inside, and choose it. A moment later, the new folder shows one asset.

  7. 07

Go back up with the breadcrumbs

Open the inner folder, and the breadcrumbs grow: All Folders › Harbor & Pine › Approved. Click any name in them to go back up, all the way to All Folders.

  8. 08

    If you delete a folder

Each folder tile has Delete folder. A deleted folder goes to Trash with everything in it, the assets and the folders inside, and you can restore it within 30 days. Trash lists only the top folder; what was inside it comes back with it. How Trash works is in Restore a file you deleted by mistake.

In short: create a folder, select the assets, and move them in. The breadcrumbs take you back up. When you can’t remember where an asset went, Find the file even when you forgot what it’s called shows how to filter for it.

Check the result

  • The project’s folder is in the Folders row, and its tile counts the assets in it.
  • The project’s assets are no longer loose in the main view.
  • The folder inside it holds the asset you moved there.
  • The breadcrumbs take you back up to All Folders.

If it didn’t work

How do I take an asset back out of a folder?

Select it, open Move to Folder, and choose Root Folder at the top of the list.

I can’t see the folder inside another folder in Move to Folder.

Expand the parent folder in the list to reach the one inside it.

What happens to the assets when I delete a folder?

They go to Trash with the folder and the folders inside it. Trash lists only the top folder; restore it within 30 days, and everything in it comes back.
